At the same time, the programme enables you to concentrate on specific subjects related to the Scandinavian welfare state such as Social Democracy and Scandinavian Society, Nordic Consumer Culture, Gender, Family and the Nordic Welfare Model. SAS also introduces you to central concepts of cultural analysis and to theories of the welfare state at the interface between general knowledge and specialised, in-depth studies, as well as knowledge of everyday culture as it is manifested in the Scandinavian welfare states. SAS combines goal-oriented competences in the humanities and social science. SAS comprises three main subjects and a varying number of elective subjects related to these three subjects. The three main subjects: · The History of the Scandinavian Welfare State · Scandinavian Welfare Culture · The Scandinavian Welfare Society Examples of elective subjects: · Crime Fiction in the Scandinavian Welfare State · Gender, Family and the Nordic Welfare Model · Nordic Democracy · Social Democracy and Scandinavian Society · Scandinavian Moments of World Fame · Scandinavian Modern Design – Design and Society · Happiness in the Danish Welfare State The programme is cross disciplinary combining courses and teachers from history, culture studies, literary studies, social sciences and marketing management. All courses are taught in English by an international group of active researchers in their respective fields Although courses are in English, students have the opportunity to study an additional introductory course in the Danish language – and students with prior knowledge of Scandinavian languages will also be able to participate in courses offered in Danish Enrolling in an elective subject means that you must have been enrolled in a bachelor programme that includes the option of taking elective subjects.
